“But will God really dwell on earth with humans? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!” — 2 CHRONICLES 6:18 (NIV)
Solomon was God’s appointed to build His temple. Being human, he could not fathom how a big God could dwell in a structure built by human hands. After all, the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot hold God’s immense presence.
But amazingly, God came into this world in human flesh and dwelt among us, as it is written in John 1:14 (NIV): “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
It is astounding to know that no matter how vast the presence of God is, He can dwell in human hearts. As Revelation 3:20 (NASB) says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”
God is inviting everyone to open the door of their hearts for He longs to come in and have a relationship with them.
Reflection:
1. What is your perception of God?
2. How have you been enlightened about God’s presence after reading the scripture?
3. How does the fact that God longs to dwell in your heart affect you?
4. Have you come to a point in your life where you have invited Him to dwell and reign in your heart?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, all honor and glory belongs to You. Thank You that You came into this world to reach us. You left Your glorious state in heaven, suffered and died to pay the penalty of our sins, rose up on the third day, and gave us the gift of life eternal. May our life be a manifestation of Your love, goodness, mercy, and grace for others to know You as their personal Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
