LORD, SAVE ME!
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” (Matthew 14:29–31)
How do we often do we pray this prayer?
Overload
For the past 2 years, when the pandemic hit, I found myself busy. I’ve realized, I’m too busy to care. Too busy doing my own thing. Too busy not to pray. And I often ask myself, how overloaded are people today? With too many activities, too many choices in the world, too much work, too many worries, too much information, and too many changes, how are we coping?
“I have no peace! I have no quiet! I have no rest! And trouble keeps coming!” (Job 3:26- GW Translation)
Learning to slow down
The speed of life causes us to hurry.
Because I am too busy doing my own thing, I also find myself in hurry. So hurried that I have become stressed and less joyful. Not to mention that it made me less productive, dried up my love, and kept me from hearing God. And because I am so focused on myself, I’ve come to a point where I am running on my own strength and ability. Before going to God, I’m making myself a top priority. But it ended up being nothing.
I was so tired of doing so many things on my own repeatedly. So, I kneeled and asked Him, “Lord, please help me, save me from this tiring situation that I’ve created, I am so tired of relying on myself, I’ve forgotten that I have you in my life”. But God, in His omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent power, revealed himself to me. He reminded me that apart from Him, I can do nothing (John 15:5). That I need Him more than I need myself. He encouraged me to slow down, to move forward one step at a time; to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10) and that He is in control of everything.
Reflection
When the waves of life are too big for you to handle, where are you running to? When the boat of life is about to sink, would you allow yourself to drown? Who would you ask to save you?
Would you ask Jesus the same prayer, “Lord, save me”?
It’s a prayer that declares how weak and limited we are. We are basically telling God that we need Him to rescue us because we cannot escape this dire situation on our own. *Inspired by: PRAY BOLD PRAYERS, Marty Ocaya
We all need to pray, “Lord, save me.”
