Celebrating His Goodness
“Life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated.”
Today marks the beginning of my birthday week. What a glorious week it will be, filled with adventures, sweet treats, and plenty of celebration. Even better, this week reminds me that God has graciously given me another year to live, learn and celebrate His goodness.
I remember a few years back when I said to my mama that it is “just another day” or “no big deal” My mama said and remind me that God hand-picked that very day to forever change their lives with my presence. He does nothing by chance or does not make mistakes. He knits each of us together in our mother’s womb and tends to every detail of our creation. The day and year of our birth were chosen on purpose, according to His will.
When a child is born, we are usually rejoicing. First birthdays are filled with the joy of spending an entire year with this little person, marking each milestone with cake, balloons, and smiles. Then, somewhere down the line, the celebration lessens. We tone down the excitement of our days as we age. This brings up several questions for me:
The Miracle of Life
If our birthdays are important as children, then why do they become less important when we become adults? Is not the miracle of life still worthy of celebration? Has the awe and wonder worn off? And if it has, why? Has God’s miracle and his goodness changed?
“He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.” — James 1:18
The truth is that we do not need a special day to celebrate the life we have given, However, birthdays rekindle that spark of rejoicing and remind us that each day holds endless possibilities, just like last year, my mom asked me what are my plans for my birthday. I said none. Because I knew that starting next year, we have a lot of things to do and pay for. So I thought that celebrating my birthday will just be another waste of money. But the Lord is good and He provides. This year, I was able to celebrate my birthday in Bohol. Went to a Blackpink concert and have a samgyup party with my family. We need only to remember that today is worth celebrating.
